Team ZZRT driver Tony Ruan won the Am class in his GT3 debut race weekend in the 2023 GT Super Sprint Challenge (GTSSC) in Shanghai International Circuit last weekend, giving the BMW M4 GT3 its first victory in China!<\/p>\n
Starting from 3rd overall and 2nd in Am class on Sunday’s Race 2, Tony made a good start after lights out to help him move up to 2nd overall and 1st in class. The solid run from the BMW driver, with race pace on par with his direct opponents, kept his class lead even if the safety car deployed in the first half of the race. After 27 minutes of racing, Tony crossed the finish line in the blue-liveried No. 89 to take 2nd overall and victory in the Am class.<\/p>\n
Just the day before, Team ZZRT, Tony and the BMW M4 GT3 model had claimed a double-podiums finish in Race 1. The team finished 3rd overall and 2nd in Am class on Saturday, thus increasing the number of trophies to four for the whole weekend in Shanghai.<\/p>\n
Tony, who led the GTSSC Am driver standings after the season-opening weekend, said after Sunday’s race: “I am very happy to be on the podium again. I am quite satisfied with my performance this weekend and look forward to continuing to improve in the next races this season.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the delivery of brand new BMW model last year, Team ZZRT and Tony have conducted several track day tests at the two centers of Chinese motorsports: Shanghai International Circuit and Zhuhai International Circuit, providing sufficient track time and preparations for his transition from Touring Car racing to GT racing.
