From May 22\u201324, the 2026 season of the China GT Championship officially got underway at Ningbo. Team KRC fielded the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and BMW M4 GT4 EVO to compete in the GT3 and GTS categories respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GTS Class:<\/strong>Ethan Ho Sweeps Both Races<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Car #58, driven solo by Ethan , competed in the GTS category with the BMW M4 GT4. During Saturday\u2019s qualifying sessions, He delivered impressive performances by securing third overall in the first qualifying session and first place in the second among GTS competitors, laying a solid foundation for both races of the weekend.\nIn Race 1, He made a steady start and consistently delivered competitive lap times, steadily moving forward through the field. Despite having the longest mandatory pit-stop time in the GTS category, he successfully fought his way to victory and claimed the class win, giving the team a perfect start .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Sunday\u2019s Race 2, He started from GTS pole position. At the start, the team adopted a tire-management strategy, allowing him to preserve his tires over the long run and minimize potential time losses caused by safety car periods. Before the race reached its halfway point, the first safety car erased his eight-second advantage. However, the tires he had carefully conserved enabled him to rebuild the gap before the pit stop window.\n\nAfter completing his pit stop, He rejoined the race in third overall and immediately resumed his charge through the field. He reclaimed the lead before the second safety car period and, in the closing stages, withstood relentless pressure from rivals behind to secure his second victory of the weekend, completing a clean sweep of both races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GT3 Class:<\/strong>Valuable Experience Gained Despite Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the GT3 class, the #18 car was jointly driven by Zhang Zhendong and Zhang Mingyang in the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. During Saturday\u2019s qualifying sessions, the team opted to use two sets of new tires based on the weather forecast strategy. Zhang Zhendong encountered heavy traffic during the first qualifying session and finished 9th overall. In the second qualifying session, Zhang Mingyang continued pushing for faster lap times and ultimately secured 13th overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Race 1, Zhang Zhendong took the opening stint and made a smooth start. However, at Turn 1 during the opening lap, while closely following the car ahead, dust and grass debris kicked up by the leading car were drawn into the front air intake, causing the radiator to become blocked and the engine water temperature to rise sharply. The car was forced to return to the pit lane at the end of the first lap for cleaning and emergency cooling procedures.\n\nFollowing the setback, the team actively adjusted its race strategy and waited for a safety car period to regain a position on the lead lap. However, the safety car was only deployed in the final five minutes of the race, leaving insufficient opportunity for the team to recover further positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Sunday\u2019s Race 2, the GT3 crew regrouped for another battle. Zhang Mingyang started from 13th on the grid and drove a solid opening stint, steadily improving track position. During the second half of the race, Zhang Zhendong took over and continued pushing forward, supported by the team\u2019s precise strategic execution and optimized car setup. The pairing ultimately finished 8th in the GT3 category.\nAlthough the team was unable to replicate its podium result from the season opener, the crew gained valuable track data and race experience while overcoming challenging circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team KRC successfully completed the Ningbo round of China GT. The team will now review lessons learned from the weekend and continue refining the car setup in preparation for the next challenge at Zhuhai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
